Welcome to the Department of Petroleum Engineering
The Department established in July 1999 offers a unique blend of academic excellence and industrial expertise to the oil and gas industry. All full-time and part-time members of staff have a proven track record in academia and many years' experience in the Petroleum industry. This combination of talent provides a strong theoretical base coupled with a practical approach to solving real-life industrial problems. Most of the staff members have research experience at the Doctorate level, in subjects that span the pure science and engineering disciplines. This range of talent can be focussed into specialised teams to tackle specific problems of relevance to the Petroleum industry. It also promotes a first class environment for the supervision of PhD students.
These Research and Development activities are complemented by a comprehensive teaching program at the Masters level. The emphasis is very much on developing personnel with the necessary skills to add bottom line value in industry as quickly as possible. As such a large percentage of the time is spent in applying the course material to real oil and gas field data.
Mission
The Mission of the Department of Petroleum Engineering is to be regarded as a world-class provider of teaching and research in all areas of sub-surface petroleum engineering, through a blend of academic and industrially-trained staff.
Vision
The vision of the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Curtin University of Technology is to become the preferred centre of excellence in the Asia Pacific region, and to be recognised worldwide for providing quality Petroleum Engineering graduates to the industry and for providing novel, cost effective solutions to complex engineering problems through a focussed Research & Development program.
